Day 7: Red Lodge, Montana to the Bitterroot Mountains

After two beautiful days at our campsite at Greenough Lake we packed up once again and headed into the town of Red Lodge one last time. We ate breakfast at the Red Lodge Cafe and ordered two sour cream twists to take on the road. We thought we were ordering two donuts, but quickly discovered we were in fact ordering two giant pastries--each the size of a loaf of bread and covered in a delicious frosting. 

After window shopping for a bit we got into the truck and continued west towards the Bitterroot Mountains. After about five hours of driving and a quick stop at the grocery store we arrived at our campsite for the evening. Charles Waters Campground near Stevensville, Montana. The campsite was more crowded than we expected, but we found a spot and set up camp.

Once we were set up, we took the dogs to explore the creek that borders the campgrounds. The pine trees overhead and the rushing creek made for a nice change after being on the road all day. We have finally reached the point in the trip where we will slow down and enjoy each destination a little longer before moving on to the next. 

We made tacos for dinner and then settled in by the campfire to relax. I read while Kevin tended to the fire. Before long I was relaxed and ready for bed, so I headed to the Scamp early and Kevin stayed outside to look at the stars before calling it a night.
