Day 5-12: A Week in Telluride, CO

'After a much needed and quite restful sleep at Beaver Creek, we picked up camp one more time before we would park the scamp for a full week (an eternity in Lloyd Adventure time).  Day 5 on the road would bring us to our "ultimate destination": Telluride, Colorado.

As Kevin drove us through Colorado, the flat landscape changes as the mountains crept up on all sides of us.  The variety of landscapes on the planet--heck, just in our country--is awe inspiring.  After a few hours on the road, we pulled into the "cabin" driveway of dear friends of ours. in Telluride.  We stayed here last summer and fell in love with the area, and when they generously offered the use of their home-away-from-home once again, we couldn't say no.  It was too much of an opportunity to recharge after such a tumultuous year to turn the offer down!

After unpacking and showering, we intended, to spend Day 5 of our trip down in town window shopping and grabbing something to eat, but once we were clean and settled in we realized we didn't feel like leaving and decided to relax for the night instead.

Our week in Telluride was perfect!  We drove into town AND took the gondola--Scout even got to ride again this year.  We enjoyed pastries and sandwiches from Baked in Telluride and drinks and stuffed Tater Tots at Smugglers Brewpub.  One of the days we were there, two blocks of the town's main street were shut down for the filming of an episode of Top Chef.  And we couldn't leave town without enjoying the 3-1-3 pizza at Brew Dog Pizza as well.

Our friend arrived at her place mid-week and so did her dog Butch.  Butch and Scout had several days to play in the woods and wear each other out!  Reno preferred to stay nestled into a pillow on a couch or bed.
Scout enjoyed in the Telluride Town Park again this year.  The water was freezing..... but some brave souls floated down the river in inner tubes as Scout retrieved his toy from the frigid water. I don't know how they did it!

Our week in Telluride stands in sharp contrast to our typical road trip--daily showers, clean clothes, restaurants, nighttime Scandal Netflix marathons... so much so that it truely felt like a vacation in a vacation!  When we pulled away to start our journey back towards Columbus, I was feeling completely rested and "normal"...something I hadn't felt in quite awhile.  I think the naps in the hammock under the Aspen trees may have helped with that a bit!

After a tranquil week in one of our favorite all-time places, we reluctantly packed up the truck and the scamp and started our journey towards home.  We are so lucky to have experienced the magic of Telluride not once, but twice, and the memories we made there are among my favorite.'
