We had hoped to take Carmen out for a test run before taking her out on the road, but we didn't have time. Our first night in the Scamp was our first night of the road trip.
We decided to start our trip at a location we visited a few years ago on a summer trip with students--Wilderness State Park on Carp Lake in Michigan. Kevin drove the entire way there so that I could try to sleep off a cough/cold that arrived as an end of the school year present.
We had taken bets about how many Scamps we would see during our trip. Kevin guessed about four, and we were happy to see a Scamp upon our arrival to the campsite!
We set up camp with little difficulty, and spent our first two nights of the trip camping, relaxing, cooking, and exploring.
We took the dogs to Mackinac City for a picnic lunch that featured the fried breadsticks we loved so much the last time we visited. The dogs enjoyed the water bowls the shop owners had sitting outside along the strip.
If you ever visit Wilderness State Park, here are two pieces of advice:
1. Bring bug spray. It is a beautiful site, but the Mosquitos will try to carry you away if you don't use spray.
2. Get the fresh donuts from the small general store down the road for breakfast (hang a right when you exit the campground and you can't miss it)
We are currently on the road again to our next destination. We plan to spend the night somewhere in the Chequamegon National Forest in Wisconsin. We just aren't quite sure where yet...
Heh... those mosquitoes would definitely lose a street fight to the next round....
