Day 4: Nemo, South Dakota to Cody, Wyoming

Today we packed up bright and early with a plan to put in a lot of miles. So, we loaded up into the truck and hit the road.

The weather was great for driving, and as we entered Wyoming the views continued to grow even prettier with each passing mile. The rolling hills that stretch as far as the eye can see and the vast blue skies are hypnotizing.

Along the way we stopped in the small town of Buffalo, Wyoming. Kevin got some fishing gear and we got a pizza to go and enjoyed a picnic lunch in the shade of a tree.

We originally planned to spend the night on the western side of the Big Horn Mountains in the Big Horn Canyon National Recreation area, but when we finally arrived at our destination we weren't happy to see that none of the sites had shade and there wasn't much to do either. So, we looked at the map, got back in the truck, and drove another hour or so to Cody, Wyoming. Are we glad we did!

Cody, Wyoming was founded by Buffalo Bill and is called the Rodeo Capital. We drove through the town and took a peek at the rodeo arena where rodeos are held nightly in the summertime. The original town buildings are right along the main strip of town. It was interesting to see what the original Cody looked like when it was first settled!

We found Buffalo Bill State Park just outside of Cody, Wyoming and set up camp for the night. A gorgeous view. An open field. A river. Breezes. And hot glorious showers. Everything a road tripper could ask for!

We spent the night relaxing and enjoying the perfect weather and views. I took a nice long shower and slept like a rock! Kevin decided to sleep in the hammock for partof the night, but eventually came in to the Scamp when he got too cold around 4:30 am. I got the bed to myself for a few hours at least!

We love calling our Scamp our home away from home, but we also enjoy meeting other people with unique traveling homes as well. This VW bus is one of my favorites so far!

Today we didn't end up where we thought we would, but I guess that's the point of a road trip! Wherever we end up, we still have a place to call home.
